Sacred
Heart Parish
Parish Organizations
Knights of Columbus
The Sacred Heart Council was initiated in the parish in March of 1993.
The Knights of Columbus is a
Catholic, family, fraternal and service organization that was founded by Father Michael J.
McGivney, curate at Saint Mary's Parish in New Haven, Connecticut, on March 29, 1882.
The name of the organization was
chosen by the founder because he felt that as a Catholic group, it should relate to
Christopher Columbus, the Catholic discoverer of America. at the same time,
"Knights" would signify that the membership embodied knightly ideals of
spirituality and service to church, country and fellowman.
The "Knights" are
dedicated to providing personnel and financial assistance to both the parish and the
Massachusetts State Council charitable needs. All of our revenues are obtained by
our fund raising activities, which include: annual concert, raffles, pancake
breakfast, pasta supper, meat raffle and the Tootsie Roll drive.
Proceeds of our Tootsie Roll drive are used
to help the mentally and physically handicapped children in communities throughout the
state, hearing aids to a needy child, close captioned TV set for a hearing impaired
child. We plan to continue these activities and hope to expand to many others with
the support of our parish families.
The Senior
Officers for the year 2007-2008 are:
Grand Knight
Paul Alconada
Deputy Grant Knight Peter
Dossett

Our Lady Sodality
Sodalities of Our Lady are religious associations
approved by the Holy See. They organize Catholics under Our Lady's name and
cultivate in them a deep devotedness, reverence, and filial love for the Blessed Virgin
Mary. Under the patronage of the Mother of God, Sodalities of our Lady aim at making
their members outstanding Catholics who give themselves wholeheartedly to sanctifying
themselves in their own states of life, to sanctify others and to defend the Church of
Jesus Christ against the attacks of their enemies.
At Sacred Heart Parish, the works of a sodalist have been
diversified over the past sixty years. We have visited the sick in their homes,
hospitals and nursing homes. In addition, Sodalists have dedicated many hours
maintaining our church, transporting those in need and providing collations for many
parish functions.
In our effort to live in our sodality's call to sanctification,
we gather several times throughout the year. with Christ at our center through His
Holy Mother, we begin all meetings with Holy Mass. We gather after Holy Mass for a
brief business meeting. Following the close of business, a guest speaker usually
addresses our group, and we then proceed to refreshments. Currently, there are about
ninety sodalists at Sacred Heart Parish.
